What are we?
Basically, we’re a bunch a wreckheads from Newport and the surrounding areas of sunny South Wales (and London) that share a passion for all things VAG (Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft), In English anything VW, Audi, SEAT, Škoda, Lamborghini, Bentley, and Bugatti. Until one of us wins the lottery, we’ve yet to see any of the later prestige marques at the monthly meets.

NewportEdition – How it all started.
It all started way back in about 1972, when the local hot hatch hooligan ‘Velly’ and his crack commando unit from Malpas started up Club GTI Newport. Monthly meets were at the Rising Sun in Rogerstone back then and the Mk4 golf was merely a pipe dream.

NewportEdition was actually formed back in 2006, although the name had been kicking about much earlier, mainly due to a handful of ‘modified’ Wolfsberg Edition stickers appearing in back windows at the meets, the infamous NewportEdition roundel sticker (still available). The Edition was born.

We quickly outgrew the original Rising Sun meeting place as monthly attendance increased to 40 cars plus. A new city centre location was found back in November 2007, with the advent of Newport town being granted ‘city’ status, it was a good move for us. This location was the awesome Rodney Parade, home of the almighty (debatable) Gwent Dragons. Thanks to Clarkee, Janine and the family we get a nice warm club house to boot with loads of parking space and even a squash club and bowling green if anyone fancies game. Really!

The Team
NewportEdition ‘is’ the members, there would be no point to the club what so ever without the dedication of each and every member attending the monthly meets, annual events and making the forum the wealth of information it is today. Like any club, members come and go, interests change, the ‘scene’ evolves on a monthly bases, but the steady stream of members keeps the club fresh.
That said, there’s always going to be a team of die hards organising the events and generally making things happen.
