Edition38 - end of the season

As the title suggests Edition38 is the last show of the season or the last major show anyway. So how did it go? Was it up to its usual standards? And did NewportEdition live up to their partying name?

It went ace and the answer to the other 2 questions is a big fat yes. Usually when we convoy up to a show its dark, often raining and we are about the only other traffic on the road. Edition38 was slightly different tho’, due to people’s commitments we decided to leave on the Saturday afternoon, get there early evening, have a party and then enjoy the show on Sunday.

Trying to keep 15 cars together in the Traffic on a busy Saturday afternoon was a nightmare to say the least and by the time we had got to Swindon people were lagging behind, although this was an Ideal opportunity for Smiffy to repair his Boost hose while we waited. The rest of the journey up was pretty uneventful by our standards and everyone continued to get mislaid for the rest of the drive.
Nick (VDUB_MK3) was using his satnav and still managed to get lost up to the point where there was a HUGE sign on the road saying “ED38 turn left” and Nick wanted to turn right because his satnav said so, standard!

We all managed to stay together for most of the journey though, which was a good thing and only got split up when we went to Tesco (other supermarkets are available) about 10 mile from the show.
When we eventually arrived it was packed and as we were a tad late we had to camp miles away from the fun.  Tempers were a little frayed and no one could be arsed with erecting tents by this point, but as we had to sleep in them, we had no choice.

Within about 30 mins the NewportEdition village was complete and the beers were cracked open, most of the usual suspects were there, Myself, Nick, Robin, Valerie (Anne), Ryan and his boy, Donna, Guy, Christian, Keri, Rich (W3LSH), Suzanna, Zane, Gareth (welshGar), Dan (B4LUR), Jack was along for the usual ride and Nick (VdubMk3) representing the low ‘n’ slow crew. As well as all the regulars there were a few more faces that made the trek up, Leighton (Shippy) in his Scirocco, Dan’s bro Alex (B2LUR) in his freshly finished Storm Developments MK2 1.8T, Wally in his Jetta, Smiffy in his Corrado, Alan from Trade Plates (Cheers for the shirt) as well as some eye candy supplied by Dan and Alex in the form of Rachel and Vicky (Barracuda). The only person missing was Velly as he has buggered off to OZ and left us forever (tosser), although I doubt he would have been there anyway as it was probably his Nan’s birthday.

As would be expected Nick cranked up the tunes in the banana VRS and beers were flowing well until everybody got in the mood and we headed off to the Party tent. Me and Ewan know the party tent atmosphere from last year and this year was no different with top live DJ’s and even a random MC for good measure.
More beer was drunk, jack was raving his tits off, complete with hoodie and we all got pretty laced. I say pretty laced, I mean really laced as we all went back to Camp PortED to dance the night away to 90’s cheese and Xmas tunes until we realised it was 4:30am and we best turn the music down.

The following morning, after I ralphed in the tent, there were a few people who were apparently not happy at being kept up all night till some ungodly hour, so at approx 7:45 they found extremely funny to unpeg and knock down myself and Nicks tent. Hilarious, Not, although everyone else seemed to think so. Man did my head hurt and the day was over for me about then as I felt as rough as a badger. Robin was battering on about how we kept him awake, I told him to get some earplugs and stop moaning.

After all making friends again we moved the cars to the display area, where we didn’t have the best plot, but made do with what we had lining up in two rows and then Nick even cracked a joke “Help me wash my car”.. Suzanna was good enough to help out.
The show was as large as usual with the high standard of show cars, traders and auto jumble. The main feature was the stage area where all of the top cars were driven up on to the stage and discussed over the tannoy system, which attracted big crowds and was good to hear what mods people had been doing through the summer. There were some excellent examples on display throughout the VAG marque with vast amounts of time and money spent. All the big tuners had their show cars out and showed off some of their new products for next year.

The only let down, as at many shows was the grub, 2 Hot Dogs and 2 Tea’s (I think it was tea) £11. What an absolute rip-off!! And it was all rank as usual. The usual greasy spoon white van brigade serving shit food to the masses. Bring your own is the way forward!

All in all another excellent show that was well organised and a massive TOP JOB to Steve Denton and his crew for making it happen. Lets hope next years Ed38 is bigger and better and lets hope that the whole season next year is a large one.

Apologies for the show report being a little ‘party’ based as opposed to a car show report, but I guess that’s how it always ends up at these big events. Maybe next year we’ll nominate someone to take note of the cars, people and fellow clubs that win awards. live it large everyone and remember God made NewportEdition!

Cheers Clarts
