Ultimate Dubs 2008

Shows at the beginning of March are always gonna be a risk, especially with the weather being so gash. Ultimate Dubs however, now in its third year was back again and willing to take the gamble.

The Saturday weather was a bit worrying as it was lashing down or as we would put it Guff, but as myself and snapper Ewan managed to get an access all areas pass on the Saturday before all the public hit the halls this was not an issue.  When Ewan found out he had the chance to snap the cars without people getting in his way all day, you would of thought he’d won the lottery and I am sure you can tell that from the quality of snaps.

It would seem that the quality of cars on offer this year was exceptional with all the usual contenders not disappointing when unveiling this year’s creations, especially as the winter break is now getting shorter.

Greg Howells Mk4 was looking awesome as ever and was even treated to a colour change for this year and some of Tony Payne’s creations were also looking mint. Due to the indoor lighting, people had to work twice as hard to get their pride and joy looking good, as this was showing up a few paint imperfections.

There was a lot going on behind the scenes mind on the Saturday and I even managed to judge some of the cars for the show and shine and that was a very hard task, believe me. Some of the quality was outstanding.

Then it was off to the spoons to get Ewan plastered on Dr Peppers and the old Jagermiester/red bull combination, this was humour in itself as most of you know Ewan is a Tee Totaler, but due to receiving some bad news regarding his job decided to have a night off - lol.

When we awoke on the Sunday morning, the weather was ace. The Sun was shining and we could tell it was going to pan out to be an awesome day.
Due to our antics on the Saturday night tempers were bound to be short and when some of the NewportEdition crew got lost following their Shat Nav to the show, GazB was not a happy chappy (Sorry Jon, I was feeling shit) and seeing as The Banana running without shat Nav arrived 30 mins before some as time went on I was getting more wound up.

The only problem with UD is that they only let you have 6 cars on your stand, which meant sadly that some nice cars of ours were left to be in the car park, this was slightly more annoying as we could have got more cars in our space.  Everyone had a top day in though I think.

There were loads of show goers coming in on the Sunday and I think this is helped by the low entry fee that UD charge, as usual tho the food was guff but nothing a wander to maccy d’s couldn’t sort out.

There were loads of club displays out to play and it was good to catch up with a few people from last year. The car park was also rammed with top quality motors and Ewan was off taking even more shots.

For those of you interested the show & shine results were as follows:

Best Mk1 - Mark Gayle
Best Mk2 - Richard Payne
Best Rallye - David Lewis
Best Mk3 - Manvir Virdi
Best Mk4 - Greg Howell
Best Mk5 - Janet Edwardson

Keep on coming and roll on the next show..

Cheers
