VW Players 2008 - Who dares wins.
Beer was flowing the sun was blazing and the air was filled with the sweet smell of bubble gum Carnuba wax.. must be Players!
Another relatively new show on the Dub radar for 2008, but given the sheer size of the turn out and quite frankly endless quality metal there you’d think the show had been a major Player well before the likes of Inters and Edition38.
Very much in the same league as Westside Show’n’shine, Players tends to attract only the very best from the show scene, even the carpark/airfield (planes taking off all day) was worth walking around. You couldn’t have asked for a better weekends worth of weather to round off another unbelievable year, beer was flowing the sun was blazing and the air was filled the sweet smell of bubble gum Carnuba wax. Next year I’ll make sure we turn up in force, it’s worth the 3 hour drive from the Port.
Personally I had the best days worth of photography all year on the show scene. Big skies, planes and plenty of space between the cars to spend time setting up each shot really made a big difference to the shots, post production was pretty minimal too.
A few non VAG rides turned up, but to be honest although not to everyones taste, they did seem to break up the usual shipment of feature cars. A smoothed Fiat Punto of all things, bagged on bbs splits and fresh paint really caught everyones eye. The odd BMW Mini with 2k’s worth of rimmage and a few little French fancies I dare to mention really stood out amongst the pigeons.
To round off the day the crowd gathered around Area 52 (one of the aptly named aircraft hangers on site) for the awards. No major surprises here, but it was the more creative metal that won the day for me. Actually having the guts to dip coat a set of 2k rims in some outlandish colour or flatting back a spanking new factory paint job and pulling off a masterpiece.. who dares wins I guess.
Sweet day, flawless rides and cool beer. Lets get on it next year Trevs!
