Weekend at Tommy’s

Deep in the heart of the South Wales valleys lies the small tin shed of Willfield Motors.

Tommy’s, as it’s more commonly known by the locals named after the one man band himself ‘Tommy’, has become somewhat of a legend over the years. Especially for the NewportEdition crew that live locally in Abercynon and the surrounding villages. I’m not entirely sure on the whole history of Willfield Motors, but judging by all the Mini Cooper racing pix about the place I’d say he learnt his trade tuning good old BMC series engines back in the days. These days passing by on the old valley road you’ll usually see a fleet of SWCC members queuing outside in anything from 800bhp Skylines to the old skool cozy boys blue oval crew.

Last weekend saw the biannual NewportEdition ‘power run’ thrash. This cold damp time of the year there’s usually teams of forced induction cars lining up to make good use of the cold dense air, but this weekend was all about the hilarious ‘Lax’ Power cars in the club [aka, the daily drivers]. None the less it was a good day and worth while just to catch up with everyone before the main show season starts over the next few months.

Prises:

Highest Normally aspirated - Chris Taylor [Polo GTi]
Highest Forced induction - Ryan [MK4 Golf 1.8T]
Car of the day - Pete Horsell [Passat 2.0 Auto]

Winner of the coverted ‘Boost’ bar prise:

GazB - Skoda 1.2 Classic - 60hp

Cheers to all that made the effort!
