With a lack of dub shows to attend this time of the year, the Classic Motor Show up at the NEC is always a good choice.

Ok I admit, I plan half my restoration work around this show. Perfectly placed just before the Winter really kicks, you’ve just wrapped the show car up in the lock-up and made a dauntingly long list of things-to-do before next years show season. The NEC Classic Motor Show is the mecca for all ‘built-not-bought’ fans out there, not only with 5 halls crammed full of Europe’s finest and rarest models, but there’s an abundance of autojumble stores and restoration tool shops full of pretty cheap gear.

The Meguiar’s stand was brimming with quality as usual and good to see mostly German metal. They’re not afraid of the modified crowd either, one of the nicest cars on the stand was a 1987 MK2 Golf with a beautifully finished G60 lump neatly tucked into it’s smoothed bay. Best MK2 at this years Edition38. There was even a 1985 Nova Sport with full on Irmscher engine conversion, loads of fun.

The Autoglym finalists showcase always steals the show, massive crowds surround the cars as they announce this years lucky winners. I’m not sure what the prizes are but basically, if you’re lucky enough to get a car worthy enough to impress the Autoglym judges then your pretty much quids in! Love it or loathe it these judges know their cars inside out, makes some of the dub show judges look like clowns, but that’s another story hey!

As always, this is one show you really should try and get yourself to one year, it’s no longer just for the anoraks amongst us.
